Hi all:
I’m emotionally exhausted and spent. The onslaught is relentless and I can’t see the sunshine through a very dark and scary forest.
I do maintain that where I can be effective and supportive is in my local community because my United States Senators sure don’t listen to me. In the vein of working locally, I reached out to activist Clara Porter of Prevention. Action. Change to see if the LAC could get in on some of her trainings. She answered with an enthusiastic yes. Below is a short description of her organization and two of the classes she’s offering to us. What I’m thinking is that we’d begin with the Active Ally Training and follow up with the De-escalation Training. We could meet on a weekday evening for two hours or on a Sunday afternoon. Clara’s trainers can be flexible to our scheduling desires. We need a minimum of 10 participants and the cost is $30 per person (per class). If you are intrigued, send me a note and then I’ll throw out dates via a Doodle poll to those who reply to me (please also tell me if you prefer weekday evenings or Sunday afternoons).
Prevention. Action. Change. is a Portland-based organization focused on helping individuals, groups, and communities prevent, interrupt, respond to, and heal from harassment, assault, and abuse.
Active Ally Training: Come together to gain awareness and skills to safely and effectively intervene when you witness harm to an individual or group. From microaggressions and identity-based harassment to interactions with I.C.E., this training will give you the tools to assess situations, understand your options, and intervene effectively where possible.
De-escalation training: helps participants share and practice skills to intervene safely to prevent and respond to escalation in a range of settings. Individuals share and gain skills in grounding and adrenaline management, situational and self-assessment, boundary setting, and safe and effective de-escalation in situations ranging from microaggressions to verbal and physical threats of harm.
